Bypass resurfacing works rescheduled for next week

Work to resurface a section of the A34 Wilmslow bypass has been delayed.

Cheshire East Highways were planning to carry out works on the A34, from its junction with Dean Row Road to the Gilbent Roundabout, from Sunday 4th August through to Monday 12th August.

However, the work was delayed because of the weather and is now expected to be carried out on August 18th and 19th.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said "The works on the A34 Wilmslow / Handforth Bypass relate to the surface dressing of the road. The technique being used is designed to seal the surface of the road and prevent water getting in, when in winter it can freeze and start to break up the surface, leading to potholes.

"The current work is weather dependent, and can be affected by wet or extremely hot conditions and due to the weather to date the initial work has been delayed and is now anticipated to be completed over the 18th / 19th August. The road markings will follow once the surface has settled."

Updated 17th August 10.40pm

According to the sign, which I saw on the A34 yesterday, this stretch of road will be closed on Sunday 18th August and Tuesday 27th August for resurfacing works. (My 8-year-old daughter took the photo as we drove past).

I sent another query to Cheshire East Council yesterday afternoon, having seen this sign, requesting confirmation of when the works were planned.

Sorry for any confusion, but I can only report on the information received.

The sign up today says 17th/18th August? (not 18/19)!

What I cannot understand is why they allowed cars to travel towards Tescoe and M&S only to reach the roundabout and be told to head back towards Wilmslow (Summer fields turn off )and spend anther 30 minuets queuing ? so you could spend 1Hour doing nothing ?This isn't the First time I have had this experience some months ago at a weekend this happened and there were so many irate drivers as the road had been closed due to an accident and the time we had to queue was again 45 minuets .They could have posted a sign at the roundabout at summer fields as all traffic was directed back there.It isn't that difficult to do and I often wonder if Government officials love to disrupt the public in anyway possible.A little forward planning on routing traffic would be appreciated in the future.

Cheshire East Highways have confirmed they will be "back on Wilmslow bypass tomorrow on the southbound from A555 to Handforth roundabout".

It would be nice if we were given a map showing the stretches of road which will be blocked and the proposed diversions then we could plan alternative routes.
There seems to have been a lot of confusion about the dates...not impressed.

@Aidan Killoran

I got caught in the traffic jam too on Sunday but quickly realised how long it would take to get through the lights. Fortunately for me I knew of an alternative route by doing a quick U turn to get me into Handforth and back onto the bypass further north
