CycleWilmslow help cyclists fix their bikes

Cycle Maintenance Training Handforth July 2013

Cyclists were taught basic tips for maintaining their cycles at a recent workshop held in Handforth.

The fully subscribed course was organised by CycleWilmslow and delivered by Darren Allgood of Macclesfield Mountain Biking, who taught the cyclists how to check that their bike is roadworthy and perform basic tasks such as puncture repairs and essential lubrication.

The 90-minute course was offered at a subsidised cost of £5 as part of CycleWilmslow's programme to 'Get Wilmslow Cycling'.

Mark Baker who attended said "I would definitely recommend this course to anybody getting into cycling and wishing to know the essentials so they are better prepared.

"If I was unfortunate to suffer a puncture or snapped chain whilst out riding I now feel like I have the required knowledge to fix my bike on the road side. Darren was a great speaker/teacher, his explanations of the tools required and the walk-throughs were thorough and easy to understand."

Further subsidised maintenance courses are planned in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge during the Summer and Autumn. For further information visit cyclewilmslow.org.uk.

A revised free cycling map of the area is also due to be available from local libraries, health centres, cafes, leisure centres and cycle shops from early August.
