Distraction thieves target Wilmslow opticians

Local residents and businesses are urged to be vigilant as distraction thieves continue to operate in Wilmslow.

Last year there was a spate of distraction thefts when men and woman, described as being of Eastern European appearance, targeted local bars, hairdressers, beauty salons and coffee shops - using distraction techniques to steal iPhones.

As far as we are aware no incidents have occurred in Wilmslow in recent months, but last weekend a Samsung Galaxy phone was stolen from an opticians on Albert Road.

Two men entered Albert Road Opticians on Saturday, 22nd June, and started browsing for frames.

Owner Deepak Oberai explained "They looked suspicious and my staff member, Sarah, was very vigilant making sure our stock remained safe. However, as they distracted Sarah, they managed to steal her mobile phone. The incident has been reported to the police and they have finger printed the frames that were made contact with."

If you notice anything suspicious, please call Wilmslow Police on 101, alternatively information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
