Popular patisserie branches into retail

A new patisserie, which is a favourite with local hotels and footballers, has opened in Wilmslow town centre.

Cook & Baker is the first retail operation for the Holt family who have been running their wholesale business Cream Patisserie for 15 years. The family business has built up an impressive client list including The Lowry, Palace and Radisson hotels as well as Manchester United Football Club and the Gusto chain of restaurants.

Amanda Holt, who runs the business with her husband Robert, said "Opening a retail business is something I wanted to do personally. We are always getting people asking us for cakes. One of the United players likes our apple pie so we always end up sending them in for him to take home - so now he'll be able to pick them up from the shop."

Cook & Baker are selling their cakes alongside salads, savouries, sandwiches and a selection of drinks - all of which can be taken away or consumed in the cafe.

Amanda added "We've been looking for a long time for a shop and we liked the spot on the main road where everyone can see us. I think people will appreciate it and there is lots of opportunities for the future."

Robert added "We are looking to launch a website to explain more about the concept behind the business.

"We are looking to serve breakfast and afternoon teas as well as offer corporate catering a bit down the line."

Cook & Baker is located at 12 Alderley Road, in the premises which was previously occupied by estate agents Spencer Knight.
