A number of privately-owned gardens are now being prepared in readiness for a local charity's major fundraiser of the year.

Wilmslow Wells for Africa will host their 21st Gardens Day on Saturday 29th June when seventeen gardens in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge will be open for viewing. Six of which are new to the scheme.

Helen Battilana, Chairman of Wilmslow Wells for Africa, said "Do take the opportunity to enjoy these delightful gardens, knowing that you are helping to provide sources of clean, safe water for rural African communities. Wilmslow Wells for Africa pride themselves on spending 99.2% of all income directly on their charitable objective."

The gardens will be open between 11am and 4.30pm and many will be serving refreshments.

The Gardens Day headquarters will be located at St John's Church Rooms on Knutsford Road, which will be open between 10.30am and 2pm. Tickets can be bought along with ready-plated Ploughman's Lunches at £5 and their famous cake stall will also be there to tempt visitors.

Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity run by volunteers. Their aim is to improve life in drought-stricken areas of Africa by providing wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment. Since the charity's formation in the mid 1980's they have raised £856,000, funded 125 individual projects and spent only £6,871 on running costs.

A detailed list of gardens can be viewed on the Wilmslow Wells for Africa website.

Tickets can be bought in advance, for £9 rather than £10 on the day, by phoning Helen on 01625 250368.

Wilmslow Wells for Africa will have a stall on Grove Street at this Artisan Market this Saturday (10am to 4pm).
