Plans are coming together for the first Handforth MayFest.

Following on from the success of last years 'Gala in the Park', the Friends of Meriton Road Park community group have decided to organise this new event as a celebration of good food, music, entertainment and good old fashioned fun.

Last September the group organised 'Gala in the Park' to raise funds and showcase the park. The event was widely supported by local businesses and drew on the help of many local volunteers, resulting in a very successful and enjoyable event which attracted almost 2000 visitors.

The MayFest will be held on Bank Holiday Monday (27th May) starting at 11.00am and aiming to end at 6.00pm.

Entertainment on the day will include a Gangnam Style dance off competition, which is open to anybody of any age with heats taking place throughout the day and a prize for the winner.

There will also be a story time and activity tent, mini massages for mums, a raffle, donkey rides, bouncy castle, carousel and many traditional games such as a coconut shy, stocks, hook a duck and a grease pole.

A DJ will be playing all kinds of music throughout the day and Handforth Model Engineering Society will be running the miniature trains. Refreshments will also be available, including chinese style food, candy floss, crepes, ice cream, pizza and a beer tent.

Julie Berry, of Friends of Meriton Road Park, said "The event is to give back to the community for the help and support we received from the Gala.

"To make this day enjoyable for all, we are appealing for volunteers to help us on the day, either by being 'back up' Marshalls or to man the game stalls, there will be no money handling involved."

Anybody interested in volunteering on the day can email Julie Berry or call her on 01625472355.
