Share a skill over coffee

Transition Wilmslow is organising a coffee morning to get people together to do something interesting and perhaps new. All with the aim of making, in this case, particularly Handforth, a better place.

Can you bake bread? Knit simple things? Make paper plant pots? Mend a hole in a pipe? Service your bike? Sew a patch or make a quilt?

Andrew Backhouse, a member of the organising group said "Wouldn't it be good to know how to do some simple tasks instead of having to buy new all the time?"

People are invited to come along on Saturday 11th May and have a go at some of the above to save money and develop skills, whilst having fun too.

Andrew Backhouse added "It just seems a good thing to do, to get people reminding themselves of simple skills, saving some money, having a bit of fun in the process, and linking in too to the Artisan Market in Handforth.

"We want people to work as a community, to do more to be sustainable in all sorts of ways, and to reuse rather than throw away. It's been a challenge to think of what simple things we'd like to know and to find people who might share them on a Saturday morning, but we know people across Wilmslow, but particularly in Handforth, might appreciate the chance. Most of us seem to fail to ride that rusty bike parked outside, would love to reuse some old fabric, or learn to make something instead of buying a cheap but not good ready meal. If this works, watch out Wilmslow!"

Share a Skill Coffee Morning will take place between 10am and 12noon at St Chad's Church lounge, Handforth on Saturday, 11th May.

There will be a small charge of £2 for coffee, biscuits, and all the above activities, admission for children, accompanied by an adult, is free.

Skills on offer will include baking bread, knitting, bike servicing, sewing patches and reusing old fabric, repairing pipes which have holes in and making simple effective plant pots out of newspaper to put plants straight in the ground.
