Help spring clean Wilmslow

Last month we asked our readers to help identify Wilmslow's 'grot spots' for this year's Spring Clean.

Following on from this article, Wilmslow Town Council has prioritised areas in most need of a clean-up and put together a timetable of activity.

The clean up operation will run from Monday 29th April until Friday 3rd May during which three public sessions have been scheduled.

It is hoped that as many volunteers as possible will join in these sessions to help smarten up the town's streets, gardens and hedge rows.

On Monday 29th April a litter pick will take place on the edge of Lindow Common, along the footpath adjacent to A538. Both Lindow Common car park areas will also be cleaned. Volunteers are requested to assemble at 10am at the car park opposite the Boddington Arms.

On Wednesday 1st May there will be a public session at Chapel Lane, Alderley Road (from the Kings Arm's roundabout to Sainsburys) and the Moor Lane/ Chapel Lane junction. Volunteers should meet at the front of the United Reform Church at 10am.

The third public session will be held on Thursday 2nd May at Cliff Road, Parkway, Sainsburys car park and the Adlington Road roundabouts. Litter pickers will meet at 10am at Wilmslow Parish Hall.

Matthew Jackson, Clerk of Wilmslow Town Council said "We will be encouraging as many as possible to attend and participate.

"In addition to the timetable, of equal importance is that individual householders and business owners spend just 10 minutes outside their own property during the week removing weeds, litter and sweeping up."

A number of volunteer groups have also come forward who will concentrate on specific areas.

On Tuesday 30th April, Beavers will litter pick the land opposite Polar Ford, the underpass and the path running alongside the A34, whilst the 5th Wilmslow Brownies will litter pick Hawthorn Street, Albert Road and Victoria Road.

Residents will pick up litter on Knutsford Road, from the Kings Arms to Ashdene Road and back along Gravel Lane, on Wednesday 1st May and Cubs will concentrate on the Browns Lane / Summerfield area.

On Friday 3rd May Scouts will collect litter from the grounds of Wilmslow Leisure Centre and the Rectory Field pond area.

Other sessions yet to be arranged include the footpath between Wilmslow Station and Wilmslow High School and Little Lindow. CETRA in association with Riverside Housing Trust are looking to arrange specific litter pick sessions around the Colshaw area.

Has there been a risk assessment and method statement been submitted if the council are involved?

Rather than calling out people(who in the main do not drop litter) to pick up the rubbish of others, the Council could do much for our area if our Councillors were to induce owners to clear up their land. Two places to start would be Royal London (the area from Harefield House to the main Alderley Road opposite the entrance to Fulshaw Park South) and the grounds of 'Remenham' (owned by CheshireEast Council) to the left of the above photograph.I think the High School should be awarded the sole right and responsibility to keep clear the path alongside the railway.
