Artisan trader to open Wilmslow bakery

A regular trader at Wilmslow's Artisan Market is preparing to open a bakery in the town centre.

Cheshire Tarts has recently taken on a premises at Watsons Mews, off Hawthorn Lane, to enable them to increase their production.

The Wilmslow Bakery will produce both Cheshire Tarts' patisserie products and more 'everyday' artisan goods for wholesale customers, under 'The Wilmslow Bakery' brand.

They will also bake to order for customers, open their doors to members of the public for special events, host children's baking parties, provide a catering service and, in due course, offer cookery classes.

Angela Kapoor, owner of the business, commented: "We started our patisserie business at the same time that the Artisan Market came to town in the summer of 2011. At that stage we were baking in a very modest domestic kitchen which quickly became stretched to the limit.

"We started looking for premises and came across the Watsons Mews unit towards the end of last year which we have since kitted out as our own artisan bakery. We bake our goods using the very best ingredients and using the methods that you would at home – just using slightly bigger mixers and ovens.

"We are very grateful for the support we have received from the people of Wilmslow in launching our business through the market. Had it not been for that particular regular event, we would have struggled to get off the ground.

"The market allows us the opportunity to showcase our products to the public and build up interest in what we do without taking unmanageable risks. Through the markets we are able to grow a modest retail customer base alongside the wholesale business. There is no plan for world domination at The Wilmslow Bakery – we just want to produce the very best baked goods for local people and support other local businesses in the process."

The Wilmslow Bakery will be opening to the public between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, 20th April, to coincide with the Wilmslow Artisan Market. They will be hosting a 'mini-market' where local mums who run their own businesses will be promoting their work. There will also be face painting, between noon and 3pm, children can decorate their own cupcake to take home and refreshments will be available to buy.

The Wilmslow Bakery is located at Unit 1A Watsons Mews, which can be found at the far end with the bright blue doors.
