A group of friends who have raised £56,000 for The Christie in the past year will be continuing their efforts at this year's Wilmslow Half Marathon.

Adam Broadbent, 45, who is currently battling stage 4 lung cancer is the inspiration behind the 505050 Challenge which was launched in March 2012 by Wilmslow businessman Simon Hayward, on his 50th birthday.

Simon was determined to raise £50,000 in less than 12 months to thank The Christie for the good work they have done helping his friend.

During the past year a group of friends and family have rallied around and organised fundraising events. These included running 50 miles in a day and several other 50 themed events such as a Santa Run, bird watching, skiing, baking and jewellery making.

Last year they raised £400 by selling tea, coffee and homemade cakes at the start line of the Wilmslow Half Marathon and they plan to do the same again this year.

Adam's wife Heather Broadbent said "Vale Road residents all baked homemade cakes and biscuits and all proceeds went directly to The Christie. Please help us beat last years total and buy a cuppa and a cake from the gang at the Wilmslow Half Marathon. We will be set up near the start line and look forward to seeing you there."

The group are also organising a 50km bike ride in aid of The Christie on 28th April, which will start in Macclesfield.
