Wilmslow resident Bernice Purves is the latest job seeker to have found a new position after visiting Wilmslow Job Club.
Bernice had been signing on for eight months when she visited the club at the end of February, where she was helped with her CV and told about a potential job at Subway.
Having taken her CV in, Bernice was invited for a trial the following week and immediately offered a job.
Bernice said "It has built my self-confidence up again to know that with all my qualifications I can get a good job and there are employers out there willing to give you a job."
Cllr Ruth McNulty explained "I happened to know the manager was looking for mature people and not only does Bernice have all the experience she has all the qualifications."
Cllr Ruth McNulty added "We have helped a couple of dozen people in the last year so it is modest numbers. We could do with bigger numbers but people who come along to the Job Club get one to one. We start looking at their skills and putting a CV together.
"We help people in various ways. It is very lonely when you are out of work, your self-worth disappears and a little help can make a big difference."
Wilmslow Job Club has now been operating for a year, helping unemployed residents to find work, and next month the club is changing its format.
Every Monday there will be a brief workshop on rotating topics such as writing your CV, organising your job search, networking, interview techniques and preparation. All sessions will be followed by one to one conversations with experienced career coaches.
Anyone needing advice to find another job is welcome at the Parish Hall on Monday mornings at 9am. All sessions will last around an hour and are free to participants who will receive a career manual.
