The Animal Sanctuary is holding a Will Week next month to help raise vital funds.

Seven solicitors from the South Manchester area have volunteered their time and expertise for free, between Monday 15th April and Friday 19th April, when they will draw up Wills for people - on the proviso that instead of being paid for their time, a donation is made to The Animal Sanctuary.

The recommended donation is £85 for a single Will and £135 for joint mirror Wills and £40 for a codicil.

Trustee Melanie Hey said "These days many people do not have Wills as they just don't have the money to spend on drafting one up. During Will Week people will have a chance to draw up a Will for a reasonable sum of money, put their affairs in order - no worrying about relatives contesting estates etc, and make a donation to a very worthy local, community charity at the same time."

Melanie added "Many of the larger charities are doing really well for donations due to public awareness - how much money comes in to Christies for example, or Dogs Trust, Red Nose Day or Children in Need.

"Granted all very worth causes, however, the smaller independent local charities are really really struggling for survival at the moment. I feel that many small, grassroots charities, run by such passionate people who do great work in the community could be lost due to lack of funding coming their way. In particular, trying to obtain funding or support for Animal Charities is very difficult."

The Animal Sanctuary provides a temporary home for cats, rabbits, ferrets and other small animals and birds which have been taken to them for a variety of reasons. All desperately need good homes which will allow them to regain confidence and recover from whatever trauma they have suffered. It is not possible to rehouse some of the animals, so these are given a permanent home at the Sanctuary.

In addition to their resident cats they have horses, ponies, a donkey, Shetland ponies, rescued cockerels, hens and a pig which are all popular with visitors.

Amongst the solicitors contributing their time is David Carson at Mark Goodwin Solicitors at 90 Water Lane. Contact Mr Carson on 01625 526495 to arrange an appointment.
