Over 10,000 respond to Local Plan consultation

The latest stage of the Local Plan consultation has now come to an end and it is estimated that over 10,000 comments have been submitted to Cheshire East Council for consideration.

The Development Strategy and Policy Principles consultation ran for six weeks from January 15th to February 26th.

Residents and other interested communities were encouraged to get involved and have their say as this consultation focused upon key sites identified as suitable for development in Cheshire East.

Once comments have been analysed and recorded they will feature on the Council's website at: www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/localplan

However, this process is anticipated to take a number of weeks due to the volume of responses received.

Councillor David Brown, Cabinet member in charge of strategic communities, said: "The strength of feeling around the Local Plan is evident in the number of comments that we have received during this stage of the consultation and we value the views of all who have taken part in the consultation.

"We will now analyse this feedback and use it to finalise the Cheshire East Development Strategy and create a sustainable, plan-led future for our Borough.

"The next consultation will be in the summer on the Core Strategy."

Consultations on the Local Plan began two years ago and since then, the feedback on the Issues and Options paper and the individual Town Strategies has been considered to produce a Draft Development Strategy.

The finalised Development Strategy will deliver 27,000 new houses and 20,000 new jobs over the next two decades and the infrastructure needed for this to happen.

Pardon me but have I missed something?
If there are 10,000 responses to the Local Plan Consultation that are yet to be analysed, can anyone explain how it is CEC can announce now that the finalised Development Strategy will deliver 27,000 new houses and 20,000 jobs over the next twenty years?

Clive Bassil makes a fair point. In reality central government are telling CE to build 27,000 new houses in the misguided belief that there are people out there with money to buy them and the process of building them will revitalise our flagging economy. In reality greenbelt will be sacrificed to provide for this supposed need, the developers will cheery pick the most profitable sites, leave a blight on the others and the urban regeneration that could be achieved by building on brownfield sites will not happen. Does this make any sense to anybody?

This is no consultation in the real sense of the word, merely a means to an end, Cheshire East Council decided what they wanted to build and where long before anything entered the public domain.

If the number of 10,000 replies are from Wilmslow, it shows the interest we all have.
I agree that a lot of this development has been decided long ago. There is just as much row and objections in Macclesfield on the same subject, and no doubt, all over Cheshire East.
