Finance chief's severance pay kept under wraps

Cheshire East Council has declined to confirm details of the severence package their former Director of Finance and Business Services received when she left the Council on Friday, 15th February.

Lisa Quinn left the Council's employment by mutual agreement following the DIP's (Designated Independent Person) report into the causes of the failure of the Lyme Green development project.

I submitted a request to Cheshire East Council asking for confirmation of the financial arrangements for Lisa Quinn's departure, by mutual agreement.

In response, a spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "The payment to Lisa Quinn took account of what was due to her under these particular circumstances along with the best balance of costs in the public interest.

"The sum of money involved will be reported in the Council's annual accounts later in the year."

Lisa Quinn is the third senior officer to leave Cheshire East Council as a result of the aborted plans to build a recycling station at Lyme Green Depot in Macclesfield which has cost Cheshire East taxpayers in excess of £800,000.

Councillor Rod Menlove, also resigned from his role as Environment Portfolio Holder, in January - as a result of the Lyme Green debacle.

I have never worked in the public sector,having always world in the real world and I cannot see why anyone should be given a severance package when they decide to leave a job.

Basically Lisa Quinn worked up to the 15th February and she should be paid up to that day and not a penny more,It would be interesting to see what is included in the package,a pension maybe?

As to the best balance of costs in the public interest,that's easy, don't give public money to people who walk out of a job.
