Wilmslow Town Council has approved a budget of £7300 for a local company to plant the existing and new planters in the town centre.

They were keen to use a local business and having approached four potential suppliers the Town Council has selected Oak Nurseries to carry out the work.

Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk, explained "This is for the planting and watering of plants. This is an item which has come over to the Town Council and used to be done by Cheshire East Council.

"We have got a budget for next year of £10,000 and we received quotes from three of the four potential providers we approached."

Wilmslow Town Council agreed a separate budget of £10,000 at their December meeting to purchase extra planters to brighten up the town centre.

In addition to retaining the six existing three tier planters and two single level planters, the costs for planting and watering are based on purchasing six additional three tier planters and 25 barrier planters.

Cllr Ruth McNulty said "We are not proposing this year to put up any baskets hanging from lamp posts because of the sheer cost of maintenance. We have proposed and have approval for additional plants so planting will be at waist level.

"So we are saving a lot of cost but putting more flowers in the town."

Suggested sites for the new planters include the wide pavements on Water Lane and close to Hoopers.

Whilst the barrier planters will be used to brighten and enhance the railings by the entrance to the Leisure Centre, at The Bollin Fee junction and by the roundabout on the A34 by the Ford garage.
