Plans for sports bar in town centre

DSC_2742

A sports bar is planning to open in Wilmslow this spring.

Bar Sport, a chain which initially started in the Midlands, has announced that they will be opening at 52, Parsonage Green in the building previously occupied by La Tasca restaurant.

Bar Sports has eight venues around the country, which operate as franchises. They have large screens which show sports all day, every day and display authentic sports memorabilia.

A planning application for change of use from restaurant (A3) to bar (A4) has been submitted to Cheshire East Council on behalf of Mr Daniel Slifkin. The opening hours are stated as: 07:30 to 24:00 Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 02:00 Saturdays and 07:30 to 24:00 on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 13/0343M.

The last date for submitting comments is 18th February and a decision is expected to be made by 22nd March.

must be better than an unused building... and at least not a well known chain which makes it a bit different

Oh, another tacky pub!!! Nice!! Would it be too much to ask for a nice restaurant/wine bar?!?
Piccolinos have just moved to A/E. I agree no more coffee shops but no more cheap and tacky teenager pubs!!!

I think we have to reconcile ourselves to 'tacky' pubs and other businesses in Wilmslow when Cheshire East is intent on selling of its land to the likes of Next which will attract more custom from the town centre. I wonder where their plans are up to in demolishing the Leisure Centre and selling Rectory Fields for another supermarket?

I would personally love a Mexican restaurant/bar, come to think of it. Somewhere to have a few drinks + nibbles, but not always a full meal.

The "new" Next will , thank goodness will take over the Gypsy site over at Stanley Green. The mess, (Once again, cleared up by us) was terrible!! Next, plans to be on the Industtial Estate and will at least remove any further problems.(Chris)
A New Mexican or even Spanish would be fab Steph! My comments were for Wilmlow town centre.
Chris, I'm thinking Wilmlow town centre. Where the Artisan market has breathed life and family and friends to meet up. I'm not a a prude, nor a snob, but come one. Strip bar and a sports bar?!?

My main issue with Cheshire East is the litter left for months after these bars and cafes. As much as Costa coffee has improved the corner, plastic coffee cups are thrown on Parkway, Holly road north and pushed into the hedges which remain there. The access to sainsburys car park from Parkway is always full of litter and no cleanup is carried out for months.
No doubt whatever opens up next to Tescos will be the same, more litter, or chewing gums -just just as the pavement outside Revolution which is full of chewing gums
I know I am getting carried away, but there is no excuse!

I think there should be a good old £1 shop for poorer people like me who only work in Wilmslow and not actually live here!

There was a Spanish there....La Tasca...one of the bigger chains that could afford the rents. No one went there.....it wasn't very good either.

I'd prefer the whole block (including Tescos's) to be demolished and redeveloped with a mixed use development (ie ground floor retails and 1st/ 2nd floor residential) with some of the much needed "Affordable Housing" that CEC tell us is needed.

Best news I’ve heard for ages. I do live and work in Wilmslow and I do want a Sports Bar and definitely not a £1 shop, yet more empty retail units or more unsightly town centre residential housing. Remember the Blue Lamp and the monstrosity that now is Bank Square. Over the years we’ve seen a whole string of get rich quick businesses open and then close in Wilmslow (including a £1 shop) who then simply blame the people of Wilmslow via the local rag when it all goes terribly wrong. The Artisan market is great, but we can only go there once a month.

Surely any business that improves the look of the town, brings in revenue, creates jobs is a benefit to wilmslow. Although a sports bar would not be my first choice of business for this property I hope it is supported as the amount of empty properties and lack of business variation in the town centre is quite frankly worrying. I wish this new venture all the best.

There is a great Spanish restaurant in Wilmslow already, at the King William pub - delicious! And, yes, La Tasca closed because the food was grim - all frozen stuff, microwaved, not authentic... a chain....

U must have been.unlucky Steve. My Spanish sister-in-law came with us and said it was very authentic at the King Billy - we've never had a bad meal there!
