Electricity to light up Morley Green

Wilmslow Town Council has decided to install an electricity supply on the green at Morley Green.

In previous years Cheshire East Council (CEC) has provided two Christmas trees for Wilmslow, one in Bank Square and the other at Morley Green.

The cost of the actual trees is about £106 each but once you add in the charge for having the tree erected, lit, taken down and removed the cost for each tree is about £800 each per year.

Matthew Jackson, Clerk of Wilmslow Town Council, suggested to councillors "If we are looking to consider putting a tree in Morley Green in future years we should consider using a fir tree which is growing on the green.

"It would require putting an electrical supply on to the green at Morley Green to enable that to happen but having spent somewhere in the region of £2000 putting an electrical supply in to that site after two or three years that would have paid for itself."

The Council supported the idea and allocated a budget of £3000 to install the electricity.

The power supply will also enable other events to take place on the green.
