A week to remember for sport at Wilmslow High School saw great wins for both football and rugby teams in national cup competitions.

On Wednesday 7th November the senior boys 1st XI played Notre Dame School in the fourth round of the ESFA Cup winning 2 – 1. This win takes them into the last 64 in the country following earlier wins over Stretford, Tytherington and Poynton High Schools.

In the same competition the Under 15 team progressed into the fourth round, beating Helsby High School 3 – 1 on Thursday afternoon. Not to be outdone, Wednesday also saw the senior boys 1st XV and the Under 15 rugby teams progress to the fifth round of the Daily Mail National Schools Cup Competition.

With both age groups playing away from home, the senior team defeated a strong Stockport Grammar School side 29 – 5, while the Under 15s beat Denstone College 27 – 7.

Finally, on Monday, the girls showed their class when they travelled to Sheffield to play in the 3rd round of the ESFA cup. The match was once again played on a full size men’s pitch, however, the girls overcame the pitch size to win the match 7-2 with Emily Maslen scoring 4 goals. A trip to Wakefield awaits in the last 64 of the country.
