Temporary new speed limit on Altrincham Road

The speed limit on a stretch of the A538 Altrincham Road is being reduced from 40mph to 30mph for the next few months.

The restriction is being put in place for safety reasons whilst a new site access is constructed for the Waters Corporation's headquarters, at the Stamford Lodge site, and the road is realigned in the area.

The 30mph limit will apply to Altrincham Road between its junction with Nansmoss Lane and a point 100m south of Morley Nursery.

This will come into operation on Monday, 1st October, and is expected to apply until 14th December 2012.

As The proprietor of the Morley Garden Centre and Nursery I propose that this be a permanent speed restriction. All day vehicles both large and small thunder pass my premises with scant regard to the existing speed limit. The attraction being that the long straight past the Jim Emerson playing fields presents a great over taking opportunity.

Attempting to pull out of my drive is almost impossible and often much easier (when wishing to turn right into Wilmslow) to turn left and then left again at the Honey Bee, the left again at the Smoke House to finally arrive at the junction of Mobberly Lane and Altrincham Rd to finally turn right

The number of accidents that occur on the bends passed the Brybour Kennels lay testament to the need to place a sensible speed restriction, especially when the Waters company take occupancy with a work force of 500 all using the road.

I agree with Tony's point about the speed limit. A permanent reduction will be an improvement for safety. Maybe we should also make sure there is no overtaking on this dangerous road.
