Wilmslow gears up for motor show

2012-07-31 Adrian at McLaren

The Wilmslow Business Group has announced the details of an exciting new event which will see luxury and top-end cars showcased in the town centre.

The Motor Show, to be held on Saturday 22nd September, was the brainchild of Steve Kennedy of Mail Boxes Etc and is being delivered by Adrian Lea of Energie Fitness Club.

At this week's Wilmslow Business Group meeting Adrian announced that the Motor Show had really taken off, having secured the headline sponsor Natural Retreats, based on Water Lane, and support from global brand of Etihad Airways.

Adrian commented "With Etihad involved, the Motor Show has really moved up a gear. The Show has become The Etihad Motor Show – Wilmslow 2012. We are really excited that Etihad has agreed to be involved and are working with us to deliver a great day out.

"The luxury cars will be placed down Grove Street, giving visitors an opportunity to have a look at the cars and chat to the dealers. In addition, we are working on a number of ideas to bring even more pizzazz to the Show. There will be more announcements in the coming weeks.

"The Etihad Motor Show will not only be a great family day out but will increase footfall, interest and excitement in Wilmslow. We hope that everyone will put 22nd September in their diaries now."

The car brands which have already signed up include: Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Lamborghini, BMW, Mini, Revere, Rolls Royce, Bentley, McLaren, Maserati, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Audi and Range Rover.

Catherine Mackenzie, Chairman of Wilmslow Business Group commented: "This is a great example of the innovative projects that the Business Group is keen to develop and deliver to bring vibrancy to Wilmslow and make it a town that we can all be very proud of. The members of the Business Group are working together, pooling their skills to deliver this exceptional Show."

We're working hard on this, and huge thanks to Adrians efforts so far. One of our (many) next tasks is to encourage retailers to participate by doing something different for the day on the 22nd, maybe a customer reception in their shop, a window promotion, a subtle twist on the car theme or whatever. Some that I've spoken to already have grasped and embraced this concept, it neednt take much or cost much, but just joining in will help massively with creating a spectacle that we can both enjoy and be proud of, our shops, our retailers, our town, and our fabulous car dealers which we shoudnt be afraid of promoting and using. Like it or not, its part of the make up of our town so best to use what we've got.

Got a sneak preview of the plans for Grove Street last night. It looks amazing.........

How about getting Victoria Pendleton to officially open it?

Perhaps if we're going to try to get Victoria Pendleton involved in the community it could be to encourage cycling ?

How about the 20's plenty campaign for starters?

Better still, why use the motor show to support this campaign - I'm sure the car dealerships of the town would want to support an initiative to help motorists and other road users get on and be part of the Wilmslow community together?

We're taking one step at a time with this project. Everyone on the team all work full time so our aims to deliver the project are quite specific.

This year, its about generating footfall, celebrating our dealerships and getting retail involved in the gig. It will be a spectacle, done on a budget with all costs being met by careful planning and finances, and it will attract locals and those remote to the town.

As part of the project we have already identified potential "openers" and other schemes we wish to get involved. It's not open ended and we need to deliver what we have planned, with our sponsors, on time, and on budget.

All our car dealers are local, the furthest we've had to go to complete the set is Stockport and Knutsford so anyone should feel free to contact them about their initiatives, its what Adrian did.

This, however, is about the Motorshow and how Wilmslow Business Group have planned it, rightly or wrongly, we're just having a go in our own style, as best as we can.

Etihads involvement and branding with their F1 car in Bank Square, which they are flying over for us, just for this one day, is a major tick in the box for us and for the town and we've attracted an excellent Wilmslow company, Natural Retreats also as a key sponsor.

This could be our annual big September event, it can grow year on year, with massive retail integration, watches, jewelery, fashion, food, we do have some of the very, very best.

This all sounds fantastic with a very impressive list of supporting marques. Just thinking Alfa might be a good addition on the basis of the affordability of their cars mixed with great sporting heritage. Mangoletsi might already be involed so just a suggestion! Looking forward to seeing this event in Wilmlsow.

Well if you want a rare modern supercar that no one else has to offer yet is faster than a Bugati Veron 0-60 then let me know..

Im only local, have nothing to prove yet My Ultima GTR that went arround TopGears track 5 seconds faster than any other road car that money can buy

The Ultima GTR720 recorded a blistering 1min 9.9secs lap time, which demolishes the previous record of 1min10.7secs set by seven-time world Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher in his £1million Ferrari FXX track car. To put things into perspective the Ultima is almost 10 seconds per lap faster than the fastest road car that Ferrari produces which is the renowned £450,000 Enzo which has been timed around the track in 1min19.0secs.

Do you want my car??????? dom(07836365353)
