Parents scale three peaks for charity

Over forty local parents have completed the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Wilmslow schools and their nominated charities.

On July 7th and 8th they scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales, in just 24 hours to raise money for Ashdene, Lindow and Gorsey Bank primary schools.

Parents of Ashdene also supported ActionAid, Gorsey Bank supported the Seashell Trust and Lindow School raised money for their own hearing impaired unit.

Organiser Neil Hughes took part of behalf of Ashdene Primary School. Unfortunately not everyone in their group of sixteen walkers made the challenge, with one parent having to pull out due to asthma and another couple not quite making it, but between them they have raised £5106 so far, before Gift Aid

Neil told wilmslow.co.uk "It was very hard work and fast paced, but we kept a sense of humour.

"Thankfully the weather was not too bad. If it had been sunny and hot it would be unbearable, as it is the worst weather held off and though it was very cold on the top of Ben Nevis in general not too bad, the weather at Scafell was beautiful at dawn and Snowdon started off fine but the weather came in on us as we climbed, but most of us missed the worst."

Team Gorsey, made up of nine dads, completed the challenge in 20 hours and 20 minutes and so far have raised £2100 which will be shared equally between Gorsey Bank PTA and The Seashell Trust.

Iain Campbell of Team Gorsey said "A fantastic achievement - all down to our teamwork and careful preparation and planning. But it wasn't easy..."

The team from Lindow have so far raised £3280 against a target of £4000 so they are hopeful of reaching their target.

You can still sponsor the parents and donate money to the schools and their chosen charities by visiting their fundraising pages: Ashdene parents have set up a Virgin Giving page to raise money for ActionAid, Gorsey Bank have a JustGiving fundraising page and Lindow School also have a fundraising page at MyDonate.
