The final preparations are currently underway in Handforth for the 'Gala Fun Day' on Sunday 3rd June.

The event is being organised by Spath Lane Residents Association, Churches Together in Handforth, Handforth Parish Council and other local community and uniformed organisations.

It has taken over six months to plan and is being held to celebrate two key events, because in addition to the Queens Diamond Jubilee it is also 50 years this year since the first residents moved onto the Spath Lane Estate.

The fun day will commence at 10.30am with a thanksgiving ceremony, led by the Churches Together, in the Paddock.

This will be followed by the parade led by the Alderley District Scout Band. Gala Queens, Rebecca Hornby (9) and Gabrielle Williams-Cantwell (8), and their attendants, Beth Winchcombe (6) and Padamai Hornby (5), will follow behind in their vehicles. Schools and uniformed organisations will march afterwards along with representatives from the Rotary Club and Fire Service.

The parade will head along Richmond Avenue and Kingston Avenue before turning right onto Wilmslow Road. They will then proceed down Wilmslow Road to turn left into Spath Lane, heading past Oakmere Residents Home and round to Delamere Road and Peover Road. The parade will finish in Stanley Hall Park around midday ready for the crowning of the Gala Queens.

An afternoon of fun and games will follow in the park, from noon to 4pm, with bouncy castles, face painting and Macclesfield FC, as well as a whole host of music and entertainment.

Alison Brough said "After months of planning we hope that Handforth can come together for a family friendly fun day in the village with opportunities for all to participate."
