As Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra's 65th season draws to a close, either the full Orchestra or ensembles drawn from its range of talented musicians, will embark on a programme of four concert appearances in the space of 29 days.

The Orchestra's heavy concert commitment will begin with an open air appearance in Wilmslow's Bank Square on May 19th, during the award winning Artisan Market. A string quartet will be appearing from 10.30am for a couple of hours, performing a number of classical favourites.

This will be followed a week later on the evening of Saturday May 26th with a charity concert in St Chad's Parish Church in Handforth, where brass, woodwind and string ensembles will play a concert of chamber music. The proceeds from which will be shared with the Leprosy Mission.

The Orchestra has been asked by Wilmslow's Queens' Jubilee Celebration Committee to appear on the centre stage at the 'Picnic in the Park' on Monday June 4th. Once again, three ensembles from the brass, woodwind and string sections of the Orchestra will be showcasing their talents to the people of Wilmslow, whilst playing a selection of popular classics during the afternoon.

The Orchestra's 65th Season culminates with a full orchestral concert at Wilmslow's Evans Theatre on Saturday June 16th. On this evening the Orchestra will be conducted by Mark Heron and will perform works by Ravel, Debussy, Rimski-Korsakov and Poulenc.

The Orchestra is already planning ahead for what it believes will be an exciting 66th season, commencing in the autumn with a concert containing well known classical pieces by Tchaikovsky and Grieg.

A spokesman for the Orchestra said, "Our 65th season has seen the Orchestra continue to grow in every way. That growth is exciting for the musicians, our patrons and the community. During the next twelve months we would like to build on this success, further improve our links with the local community, and continue to perform a series of first class classical music concerts for the people of Wilmslow to enjoy".

Further details for the concerts can be found in our events calendar.

Have been to 3 concerts and this orchestra is wonderful, exceptional and very entertaining.
We should all support the orchestra to ensure that they can continue their brilliant performances - usually in the Leisure Centre. A really nice night out within walking distance for many.
