Local school children are being invited to enter a Diamond Jubilee Art Competition to raise money for charity.

In the run up to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations in June, Bebb and Sekers fine art gallery and Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe of Alderley Edge are inviting 5 to 18 year olds to take part in the art competition which will raise funds for Home-Start - a charity that helps vulnerable children by offering support, advice and friendship to their families through trained volunteers.

The theme is 'The Queen's Diamond Jubilee', and can represent anything this means to the children, such as parties, royalty, jewels, celebrations, or even our country, or how our lives compare to those children elsewhere in our world.

There will be 4 entry groups, which will be according to school year groups, and all work must be no larger than A4 size. Only one entry per child will be accepted. The best entries will be displayed at Costa Coffee in Alderley Edge between 25th May and 5th June and first, second and third prizes will be awarded to each group.

Lucy Sekers said "The Alderley Village Jubilee celebrations are for the whole family, and what better way to involve our local children than invite them to share their thoughts on what the Queen's Diamond Jubilee means to them?

"I believe that you're never too young to enjoy art and I have been keen to introduce an art competition for Primary and Secondary school pupils - here is a fabulous opportunity, a inspirational subject and a great cause - HomeStart is there to help families who need support."

"We are asking parents to help with this competition rather than schools, because I am aware that the local schools are being asked to take part in another art competition for the Village Fete festivities in July, and I wanted to work alongside Carole Geary's great project for Francis House."

Entries can be handed in to Hullabaloo Toys at Parsonage Green and Mr Simms Old Sweet Shoppe or Bebb and Sekers both located on London Road in Alderley Edge. Entry forms can be downloaded here, or picked up from these places too where raffle tickets can be purchased for the grand prize draw.

All entries must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 30th May. Entries will then be judged at Costa on Friday 1st June at 4.30pm where the raffle will be held with some great prizes donated by local businesses.

Lucy added "Donation boxes will be in all these locations, and at the schools taking part. Please help us to raise money for this really good cause by donating an amount of your choice to enter our competition."

Winners will be announced and displayed on www.wilmslow.co.uk.
