Plans for gypsy caravan site

A planning application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council (CEC) to build a gypsy site off Moor Lane.

The applicant is seeking to build a caravan site for gypsies to live, along with utility and day rooms on Green Belt land to the north west of Moor Lane.

The submitted plan for the 0.46 hectare site shows one proposed mobile home, one proposed touring caravan and a proposed utility/day room with kitchen, washroom and bathroom.

The planning application, reference 12/1144M, can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website.

There is a public WTC Planning Comm meeting, tomorrow, Mon 23 April at 7.30pm at the Parish Hall, Cliff Road. I do not know if this application has yet been discussed, but the Agenda allows 10 mins for questions / observations from members of the public present..

This is simple, ask yourself if you think it is sensible to build on our precious green belt land with the project that is being proposed. Whether you think this is a splendid idea or complete and utter madness, go to the council's website here http://bit.ly/HYFIeD and comment on this application. If you object to it, say on the grounds that you are a local resident, and you object to green belt being used for development, your comment will be officially recorded. The Prime Minister has a think tank who advised him to push forward on building on green belt land. But his own advice is that development on green belt could go ahead, but not is there was sufficient local objection to the application. So if you want to stop it, click on the link and say you object.

Or you could just say you love the idea!

Last week I photographed the destruction left by the "gypsies" on land adjacent to the by-pass, newly-planted saplings trashed, stolen goods and rubbish left in the hedges.

There was a time, a hundred years ago, when Wilmslow used to welcome the travelling community; they lived around Lindow Common and caused no trouble. Unfortunately the modern-day Irish Tinkers are, seemingly, a different breed and pass though, leaving nothing but rubbish, which has to be cleared away after they have gone.

If you have an opinion, please attend the meeting tomorrow.

Gypsies/travellers/pikies----whatever you wish to refer to them as----are nothing other than parasites! Look what has happened to Middlewich --- house prices have fallen by at least 25% compared with a similar area like Holmes Chapel since their infestation! Find me someone who has a good word to say about them! They contribute nothing and take everything, we don't want them and we won't be having them!

I can see no reason why this Green Belt field should be released for a Gypsy Caravan Site. It couyld open the way for other applications of a similar nature when fields are sold off. Protect our Green Belt!! It is also in an area where the access is a one track road which is already heavily used. It is on the route to a bridleway which is regularly used by horses, that is dangerous enough for them already, without additional construction vehicles etc. I feel that there is a likelyhood that if this application is allowed that the site will attract more and more caravans and we could find ourselves in a Dale Farm situation. We need to be vigilant over upcoming Bank holidays just in case someone try to "jump the gun" This has happened in other areas.

Well here's an odd coincidence... someone with the same surname has has tried the same thing in Warwick: http://bit.ly/JjEazN

Not sure if they are connected.

We really don't need this beautiful bit of Wilmslow ruined,

I think Pete Taylor is wrong about Wilmslow welcoming gypsies a hundred years ago - local records state that the town councillors of the day were so concerned about their drunken behaviour, especially on race days, (round the common - hence Racecourse Road) that the land was bought and presented to the people of Wilmslow - which meant the racing stopped. So, they were not welcome then - and they are not welcome now, especially on this site off a one track lane which is already over-used by vehicles.

Whenever gypsies have camped in Wilmslow they have left a trail of rubbish and destruction behind and yes the clean up is paid for by Council Tax payers. What's more I object that local greenbelt land is being proposed for development. I followed the link to the CE website (above) to register a comment, but found that the navigation was impossible to penetrate ( a bit like the Wilmslow Vision pages)... These pages must be made more resident friendly. In the end I have emailed the case worker/planning department.

This Application must not be approved.

Wilmslow in particular, and Cheshire East in general, does not need a Gypsy Site which in all probability could and would reach Dale Farm proportions.

These people do not contribute anything to the local community or economy yet take advantage of all the local facilities which are hard-pressed enough by folk who pay their way.

Furthermore, as we know from past experience, when and if these people leave the site, they leave unsightly and potentially harmful mess and rubbish for others to deal with at the Council's expense.

This applicant is a man who should not have an opportunity to inflict these problems on our much loved community.
