Help make Wilmslow bloom

Having entered Wilmslow into this year's North West in Bloom competition, Incredible Edible volunteers have been visiting businesses across the town to encourage as many as possible to get involved.

Incredible Edible has teamed up with Wilmslow Business Group to enter the competition with an 'edibles' theme.

The aims of the competition are to encourage local communities to improve and care for their environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, and to sweep away eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Helen Yates, who launched Incredible Edible Wilmslow, said "We received a really positive response as quite a few had already heard about our entry and were already planning what they were going to grow in hanging baskets or pots outside their premises."

They are calling all residents, churches, businesses, schools, gyms and health centres to join the campaign to bring everyone together as a community to brighten up the town. Those who take part will be added to the judges route and could be included in a slideshow presentation which will be produced in advance of the judge's visit.

Helen Yates added "We could have a lot of fun with this - an apple tree or peppermint pots outside dentists, potatoes and peas outside the chip shops, carrots and black eyed peas by opticians and beauticians growing what's in their products; lavender, rosemary and cucumber. Of course it fits in perfectly with gyms - that complete fitness from fresh, organic diet to exercise.

"If there is no-one on the team who wants responsibility for the weeding and watering ask family members, friends or neighbours to help out - the more people we involve the better. Our edible theme of course will be useful as well as beautiful, so if you're happy to share the harvest, you can put our logo on it to let people know they can snip a bit. If it's not used it's a waste."

The RHS judges will be coming for a look around Wilmslow in April to give Incredible Edible some hints and tips. They will then return in June or July to judge the town against other similar sized towns in the North West. If we do well in our region then Wilmslow could be entered into the national competition.

Helena Jones of Incredible Edible said "We're really excited about the changes due to take place around town this summer. Community working together to make a change for the better, exactly what Incredible Edible and Wilmslow Business Group are all about. I am looking forward to working with you all - here's to the summer!"
