Lindow's tall story

Giraffe1

Children in Year 1 at Lindow Primary School have adopted a giraffe!

To support this term’s learning theme of 'Africa', where children learn about life in a very different setting, via lessons in reading, writing, geography, history, art and music, the class has adopted a giraffe for a year.

Domiciled on the Umphafa Private Nature Reserve in South Africa, the giraffes have a perfect habitat with a safe, certain future where they are protected from factors such as habitat destruction and human persecution.

Class teacher Miss Stirling explained: “The children are really excited about ‘owning’ a pet giraffe! It brings to life the importance of conservation and the children are looking forward to seeing their giraffe’s ‘cousins’ when we visit Chester Zoo later this term.”

She continued “We ran a competition to name our giraffe and had some fantastic entries, the picture shows our winner and runners up. We chose to name our giraffe “Georgina”, or Gina for short, painted by Libby Steele, with runners up “Pat” by Hudson Moyle and “Rafa” by Jasmine Steele.”
