Wilmslow Triathlon places going fast

Wilmslow Triathlon (2)

Places for the Wilmslow Triathlon, which will be held on Sunday 13th May, are filling up fast.

Now in its 6th year, the Wilmslow Triathlon is a hugely popular sprint distance triathlon around Wilmslow and the Cheshire plains. Aimed at novices and experienced triathletes alike, this triathlon always sells out well in advance.

The event starts with a 400m swim in the pool at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, followed by a picturesque, mainly flat 23.8km cycle ride through Ashley and Mobberley. Finally there is a 5.6km run along mainly quiet, leafy roads around east Wilmslow. The route is mostly flat with some inclines near the River Bollin.

This event is part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series, but competitors are welcome to take part in the Wilmslow Triathlon as a single event. Competitors start in waves, with the first swimmers taking to the water from 7am.

Entry costs are £42 for individuals or £55 for team entries, including numbered racking, electronic chip timing and a goody bag. The prize giving takes place after the event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and novice prize.

The course records are currently held by Paul Skipper (1hr 2min 13sec, 2008) and Jacqui Slac (1hr 09min 57sec, 2011).

Entries close on 5th May 2012, to secure your place go to www.xtramileevents.com.
