The Argos store in Wilmslow is closing its doors today.

Having traded on Alderley Road for 37 years, Argos decided not to renew the lease.

An Argos spokesman said "Argos is exploring alternative working opportunities for the affected employees at Wilmslow wherever possible."

The company has not confirmed how many workers will be affected by the closure.

Tunchan Tole, Store Manager at Wilmslow, is staying with Argos and confirmed that "some of the staff are also relocating within the company."

Argos suggested that customers use nearby stores at Wythenshawe, Macclesfield, Stockport Mersey or Stockport Peel.

The spokesman added "All of these stores have recently been or are about to be refurbished."

The unit at 47-49 Alderley Road is currently available to rent on a 15 year lease for £33,000 per annum.

It's unfortunate that Argos is closing, many people will be used to having it there.

This is a great loss. Many excellent people have worked at this store.Helpfully telling us where the nearest stores are located is like saying to a person without a computer 'All details available on our website' For all the pious talk about putting the customer first, things are getting harder not easier.

I have empathy for the customer facing staff but have not been back to this store after two disappointing experiences.

As with many shops in central Wilmslow I fear the main problem is the cost of the Lease.
The current Argos model is online purchase with local collection points. Is Stockport local?
