Snowmen parade for charity

Model snowmen have started appearing in shop windows this week as part of Wilmslow High School's Snowman Parade.

This charity event is being organised to raise funds for the MacMillan Butterfly Appeal, which aims to raise £100,000 to build a family support unit at Beechwood Cancer Care.

The decorated snowmen will be on display in the premises all week before being taken to the Wilmslow High School Christmas Market on Saturday, 10th December, where visitors will vote for their favourite one.

The Christmas Market and Snowman Parade is organised by the Sixth Form Business Events Team who have signed up 18 businesses and schools to take part in the parade.

The team have also booked 20 traders for the festive fair which will include a BBQ, raffle, Santa's Grotto and entertainment - including a debut performance from the staff choir.

Last year the Christmas market and snowmen raised £663 for the Stockport Wellspring Centre for the Homeless and this year they are hoping to raise even more.

Teacher Caroline Baines said "The Snowman Parade is a community event between the school and local businesses. We hope that it will bring more people into the town centre, and therefore the businesses, to see the snowmen.

"When the snowmen are on parade at the school Christmas Market, we hope more people will come to see them - all of which contributes towards the money we are hoping to raise for charity this year."

Afterward the school's Christmas market the snowmen will return to the businesses and there will be a treasure hunt for local families to discover the locations of the snowmen.

Entry forms for the treasure hunt will be available to purchase from the Wilmslow High Christmas Market, with all money going to the MacMillan Butterfly Appeal.

The snowmen will be paraded on Saturday 10th December at the high school's Christmas market from 10am to 3pm.
