New fashion store aims to fill gap in market

A new fashion store is opening in Wilmslow this week offering mainstream fashion at affordable prices.

Boutique Babylon will open on Friday, 18th November, at the top of Church Street selling all British brands with prices starting from £25 to £30.

The man behind the new shop is Jason Lyons, 41, who has worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years.

Jason, who was born in Wilmslow and currently lives in Irwin Drive Handforth, used to manage 'The Works Clothing Company' on Alderley Road which closed down about 20 years ago. Since then he worked as Retail Director for a concessions company.

Jason told me "It is all very top end in Wilmslow so I'm aiming for the mid-market which is something the town is missing. I'll be selling about six brands, catering for a broad market from girls aged 15 to 50 - so hopefully I have got all avenues covered from work wear to party wear."

The inspiration for Jason's new venture is his 5 month old daughter Poppy, whose name appears on the shop sign.

Jason explained "My old company was based in London so I was working down there three days a week. When we knew we were expecting I decided I didn't want to be away a lot so Poppy was my inspiration for setting up the boutique."
