The Big Blue Fish & Chip shop opened its doors for the first time last week for a tasting day.
Invited guests and passers-by were given fish and chips and prosecco to celebrate the opening of the new Alderley Road shop.
Frank Gurney (pictured) of Wilmslow ate the first portion of fish and chips to be served in the shop. He said "These fish and chips really are a cut above the rest - very tasty and a really friendly team. I'm now looking forward to trying some of the specials that will be on offer like Sea Bass, John Dory and Turbot!"
On the day, Ewan McLennan of Gorsey Bank Primary School was also presented with his prize of a mountain bike for providing the winning entry in the competition for finding a name for the new shop. His entry was 'Sole Food'.
Manager Andrew Massey from Prestbury said "We wanted to involve the local community when launching the new shop, and we thought asking the local school to come up with suggestions for a name was the perfect way to do this.
"We had loads of really good entries but we thought that Ewan's really stood out. It was a real pleasure to present him with his mountain bike. All the kids will be invited for a free meal from the shop in the coming weeks."
The Big Blue is owned by Andrew Massey and his business partner Phil Geary who manages their Grappenhall shop which opened last summer.
Andrew told me "We felt Wilmslow needed an upmarket fish and chip shop that offered people something different.
"All our fish comes from sustainable and monitored fisheries. Most of the common fish like cod and haddock comes fresh daily from Scottish markets, whilst we buy other fish, like lemon sole and plaice, from Iceland. Fresh fish specials, such as turbot and seabass we will buy from Ports in Cornwall up to Scotland."
"Our potatoes are the very best Lincolnshire spuds, our pies are made by local butchers Kirks and our barmcakes are from Goostrey's bakers in Mobberley.
"All in all we have sourced product from all over the UK and beyond to bring you the best quality food we possibly can."
The Big Blue at 7 Alderley Road is open Monday to Saturday 11.30am to 2.30pm and 4.30pm to 9pm.
