The 2011 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival, which attracted a colourful crop of over 100 scarecrows to the town, has raised £2550 for charity.

The Scarecrow Draw raised £1,572 and with a surplus of £978 from the actual Scarecrow Festival, Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club have been able to share the total of £2550 between the Alzheimer's Society, the Children's Adventure Farm Trust and the Sensory Unit at the Wilmslow Grange School in Handforth.

The Scarecrow Draw took place on Tuesday 6th September with a formal presentation at the meeting of the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club on 13th September.

First prize of two return Jet2.com tickets to Madeira went to Mrs Jan Robinson who works for Hoopers. Mrs Robinson, from Hazel Grove, purchased her ticket on the very last day of ticket sales and celebrated her birthday on the day she collected her prize.

Excited by her win, Jan thanked the Rotary Club members and said "my husband Martin and I are over the moon with the win and we hope to take advantage of the trip in the next few weeks to enjoy some autumn sunshine."

How fantastic this event has now become in just two years and all thanks to those Wilmslow businesses who realise the power of PR, not just for themselves but for the town as a whole. So a Big Big Thank You to all who supported The Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival and I hope we can all encourage even more scarecrows next year.

'You have been warned - I will be back'.....
