Police are appealing for assistance from Wilmslow residents to help prevent crime and disorder in the area.

Inspector Matt Welsted said "Although Wilmslow is a very safe place to live and work with very few crimes occurring for the population and popularity of the area, we do occasionally identify an issue which needs to be addressed.

"On Sunday night an unidentified person stole property from vehicles in the Hawthorn Avenue area. He was described as being a white male in his early 20's with long blonde hair, to his chin. He stood about 5'9" tall and was wearing a grey hooded top with hood up, dark coloured bottoms and a dark jacket over the hooded top. Do you know who this man is?

"When officers attended they discover a disturbing number of vehicles parked up for the evening but not locked. These vehicles had valuable property inside and were a very easy target for any thief.

"Please double check that your vehicles are locked with no property on show and report anyone acting suspiciously in your area."

During the same night, letters and a parcel were stolen from a vehicle parked on a driveway on Park Avenue. Property, including a Sat Nav, mobile phone and DVD player, was also taken from insecure vehicles parked on Deanway and Fletsand Road.

All reports of suspicious behaviour should be reported at the time on 0845 456 0000 or 999 in an emergency.

Inspector Welsted added "If you have information on the above male or anything else then please contact my team on 0845 458 6374 and please be assured your call will be dealt with in complete confidence."
