Guides enjoy action packed international camp

A large group of Wilmslow guides and leaders have recently returned from a very enjoyable week's camp at Charnwood 2011.

The adult leaders and 41 girls from Wilmslow were amongst 3500 to participate in the International Chamboree which was hosted by Leicestershire Scout and Guide Associations. There members of Handforth Senior Section joined the group, who had a challenging programme aimed at 16 to 21 year olds.

Amongst the week's highlights was an off site activity day which included high and low ropes, climbing, sailing, rafting, bike riding, walking and geo caching. Whilst
on site activities were divided amongst the Go Global, Adrenalin and Skills zones.

Go Global gave them an insight into the work of charities at home and abroad, including Shelter and Hearing Dogs with activities which allowed the girls to experience decision making and team building. The Adrenalin zone had climbing walls, zip wire, grass boarding, a spiders web and many more all exhilarating activities. Whilst in Skills the girls could try their hand at wood turning, glass engraving, archery, drumming, circus skills, fencing and volley ball to name a few.

Activities continued in to the evenings with a 'Street Fair', Disco, live bands, films and challenges in the style of The Cube, It's a Knockout and The Hub with chill out opportunities.

The closing ceremony capped a thoroughly enjoyable week with a fantastic fireworks display, laser show and a 'bouncing' disco.

Guider Lynn Bond said "Attending has given the group memories and new friendships, but more importantly they have gained skills to continue and build on.

"Girlguiding continues to help adults and young people develop into caring and understanding members of today's society with ambitions to play a part in its future."
