A young student from California has become an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean.

Each year Rotary International sponsors international students to help build bridges between continents and communities. This year the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean has welcomed Ryan Zoradi, a young student from San Luis Obispo in California, who has been studying for an MSc in Globalisation and Development at The University of Manchester.

Peter Friend, Past President of Wilmslow Dean, said "Ryan has been a shining example of what is good in today's youth. His interest lies in the connection between business and poverty reduction and to this end he has conducted research in Beijing, China and Kigali, Rwanda since arriving in Manchester.

"The highlight of his time in Manchester has been getting involved in the local community via Rotary events. In particular, Ryan organised and hosted an international discussion forum at the University of Manchester with students from China, South Africa, Canada and the Middle East on current events in their countries such as the Arab Spring."

During his stay Ryan has also climbed the three highest mountains in the UK for charity, helped with the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival and assisted with collections at Christmas.

Peter added "Whilst Ryan suffered from the cold when rattling his tin for our local charities in the snow, he thoroughly enjoyed the multicultural Manchester cuisine and above all, Manchester City football matches."

Ryan has been looked after during his stay by Wilmslow Dean Rotarian Ian Bradley, who works at Manchester University and has become a good friend - introducing Ryan to both local beers and walks in the Pennines.
