Scarecrow winners awarded

The Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean presented cups to this year's winner in the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival on Tuesday, 19th July.

First prize in the School Section was awarded to Wilmslow Preparatory School whose Headmaster Paul Reynolds told them much fun was had by the children who created their scarecrow Joseph.

Joseph was exhibited along with scarecrows from other local schools in Hoopers shop windows on Alderley Road, attracting much attention from passers-by.

In the business section, first prize cup went to Tom Hawkwood of Petit Delice whose creation 'Watching The World Go By' enjoyed the sunshine for 3 weeks with a glass of cognac and Le Monde newspaper amongst other diners at Petit Delice.

Tom Hawkwood said their scarecrow had attracted many customers who wanted to sit at tables next him so they decided to keep him on for another week after the Scarecrow Festival.

There will be a presentation with prizes to all the winners at the next Wilmslow Business Group meeting on Monday 26th September.

Money raised from the 2011 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival will go to help Alzheimers, The Children's Adventure Farm Trust and towards a sensory room for autistic children at Wilmslow Grange School.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, who have donated some fantastic prizes, the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean are also holding a raffle. Tickets will go on sale from 10am to 4pm on each Friday in August and the first Friday in September, outside Sainsburys in Wilmslow. The draw will be held on Tuesday, 6th September at the Deanwater Hotel in Woodford. The profits from the raffle will go to the same charities.
