Town centre gas works start Monday

Essential gas works will commence in Wilmslow town centre next week.

National Grid will be replacing an old metal gas mains from under the access road outside the old Rex Cinema to outside number 39 Alderley Road.

The work will start on Monday, 25th July, and will last around two weeks.

A spokeswoman from National Grid said "We have liaised with the local authority while we've been planning the works and have spoken to the shopkeepers - they are happy that we've planned the work to coincide with their quietest trading period.

"We will have temporary traffic lights in operation, but as these are not controlling traffic on the main road, there shouldn't be too many delays. The works also coincide with the start of the school holidays and so should have very little impact on commuter traffic."
