Teachers' strike hits 3 Wilmslow schools

Three schools in the Wilmslow area will be affected by industrial action on Thursday, 30th June.

Dean Oaks Primary School and Wilmslow Grange Primary in Handforth will be completely closed for the day whilst Ashdene Primary School be partially closed.

Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) have announced they will take strike action over proposed changes to their pensions.

Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said: "Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander has made it crystal clear that there is no intention on the part of Government to continue the negotiations on pensions in a serious and open manner. It would appear they have already decided the changes they wish to make to public sector pensions regardless of the consequences or the facts."

She added "Teachers' pensions are affordable and essential. To take away teachers' pensions rights will see many leave the pension scheme and also the profession. This will be a disaster and it is one which can be avoided."

At Ashdene Primary one of the reception classes, both Year 5 classes and one of the Year 6 classes will be closed, whilst the rest of the school will remain open as usual.

As far as we are aware all the other Wilmslow schools will be fully open but if we receive any information to the contrary then we will update this article.
