Twenty privately-owned local gardens are now being prepared in readiness for Wilmslow Wells Garden Day on Saturday, 25th June.
Helen Battilana, Chairman Wilmslow Wells, said "The charity has run this event for many years thanks to the generosity of supporters who are happy to share their beautiful gardens with the public for the benefit of many thousands of Africans living in rural communities."
Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity which has funded 140 projects in 15 countries since the early 1980's, ranging in size from simple hand-dug wells to complex water harvesting and storage facilities serving whole villages.
Helen added "We are very proud of the fact that 99% of our income is used on direct charitable expenditure to provide clean water supplies, storage tanks and sanitation.
"Our annual Gardens Day is our biggest fund raiser of the year and we always receive plenty of compliments about the gardens, as well as the refreshments served at St John's Church Rooms."
One of the gardens open for the first time this year is a half acre plot on Hough Lane in Alderley Edge where Peter Woollam grows over 200 edible varieties of plant.
The gardens will be open between 11am and 4.30om. Tickets with a sketch map can be bought in advance from Shirley (01625 522552), Eileen (01625 522098) or Helen (01625 250368). Tickets are also available from Chelsea Flowers shop on Chapel Lane for cash sales only. The £9 ticket (50p for under 16) gives admission to all 20 gardens.
From 10.30am until 2pm tickets can be bought at St John's Church Rooms on Knutsford Rd where refreshments, including lunches, will be served. The charity's famous cake stall will be there too and 5 of the open gardens will also be serving tea and cakes.
