Chainsaw carver to showcase his skills

The latest work by local sculptor Tim Burgess will be exhibited at a charity garden event in a few weeks time.

Melanie and husband Keith had watched a demonstration by Tim at Wilmslow Show so, when they decided to have a tree felled that had already reached 50ft, they called in Tim to carve the trunk at their Bourne Street garden.

Mobberley-based Tim works with a chainsaw rather than a hammer and chisel to carve his incredibly life-like and detailed creations. Owls are popular subjects, but Tim has sculpted many other figures including wizards, bears, eagles and foxes.

Melanie said "We have no idea of exactly what it will be, but as we already have a carved owl we're hoping that the new arrival will be friendly to birds."

You will be able to see the end result when Melanie and Keith's unusual suburban garden, which has evolved over three generations of one family, is open to the public on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

More details of Melanie's garden, and many more throughout Cheshire, are on the NGS website and in the NGS leaflet available free from libraries and garden centres.
