Round Table boost Macmillan appeal

Wilmslow RT with Keith Williams

Macmillan Cancer Support are aiming to raise £35,000 during their centenary year and their appeal has been given a huge boost.

On Saturday, 26th March, the Wilmslow Round Table donated £5,000 during their annual Senior Citizens Party at Honford Hall, Handforth.

One hundred and twenty pensioners were bussed in from the local area for a full evening's entertainment, provided by Yvonne Patterson and Dusty Young, which was complemented by sherry, sandwiches, cakes and tea.

During the evening Stephen Killilea presented the generous donation, on behalf of Wilmslow Round Table, to Dr Keith Williams. He then presented another £5000 cheque to Francis House Children's Hospice.

Stephen explained it been a very successful year for fundraising within Wilmslow Round Table with a very well attended bonfire and generous donations to their Sleigh collections in the run up to Christmas.

He said "Wilmslow Round Table are keen for the people of Wilmslow to see how we distribute the money they have helped us to raise and we believed that supporting Francis House and Macmillan this year are very worthy causes. So far this year we have donated over £15,000 to local charities, groups and good causes."

Sarah Page, fundraising manager from Macmillan Cancer Support commented "We are absolutely delighted to receive £5000 from Wilmslow Round Table. It has given the appeal a much needed boost.

"This money will make a huge difference. Macmillan is 99% funded from public donations and we simply would not be able to provide the much needed support to people affected by cancer without support from people in the local community."

In addition to charity fundraising, Wilmslow Round Table also has an active and varied programme of social events. In the last year, their social programme included go-karting, a brewery visit, comedy night and visiting an indoor climbing wall.

Wilmslow Round Table always welcomes potential new members. Stephen said "If you are male, aged 18 to 45, like the sound of what Wilmslow Round Table are doing and fancy joining us for an evening to see what we are about, we'd be happy to welcome you along. We meet every second and fourth Thursday in Wilmslow."
