The people of Wilmslow were out in force as they joined the first leg of the epic walk to campaign against mothers' deaths around the world.

Armed with prams and bucket-loads of enthusiasm, Oxfam campaigners set off from Manchester city centre on Saturday, 19th March, and arrived in Wilmslow where they received a fantastic welcome.

After lunch and a well deserved rest at the Wilmslow Oxfam shop they set off in the afternoon and walked all the way to Knutsford.

Gwen, shop manager from the Oxfam shop in Wilmslow said: "It's such an exciting campaign to be part of, there are loads of people getting involved – and for such a good cause too."

The group of committed pramblers are walking over 300 miles to shout out about the fact that every day around the world 1000 women die in pregnancy or childbirth due to lack of adequate healthcare.

The Oxfam Pramble is currently winding its way down the country . It will roll from Manchester through Chester, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry, and Oxford, before arriving in London just in time for Mother's Day. Walkers are tackling an average of 10 miles at a time (at a leisurely pace!) pushing prams, collecting messages in support of mums healthcare and throwing parties all along the way.

Marie O'Neill, one of the Pramble organisers, from Manchester, said: "We want as many as possible to come and walk with us. It will be a really fun - as well as active - day! The more walkers we have the bigger noise we can make about mothers' health. It's going to be pramtastic!"
