Wilmslow supermarket raises thousands for Comic Relief

Sainsbury's in Wilmslow fully embraced the spirit of this year's Red Nose Day by organising a whole host of activities to Do Something Funny for Money.

Their theme for the day was super heroes and villains, so Steve Morris, Manager at Sainsbury's, donned a very fetching Spider-Man outfit to oversee the day's activities which raised over £3000 for Comic Relief.

Throughout the day, in return for a donation, people could have a go at Zorbing, which involved hurtling around the car park in a giant inflatable ball. Shoppers were also invited to throw wet sponges at employees of Sainsbury's and other local businesses who took their turn in the stocks.

Actor Matthew Crompton, who played PC Sam Harker in The Bill and Dan Mason in Coronation Street, took part in a charity space hopper race which was won by Paul Quinn, of Harper and Quinn. This was followed by Sainsbury's beating Hoopers in a tug of war competition.

Steve Morris said "A huge thanks you to all our customers who donated over the last few weeks.

"For today's activities thanks go to Kilby creative caterers, the team at Hoopers, Paul and the team at Harpers and Quinn, Rob the zorb ball man, Paul and all the team at Imagine FM, and big thanks to my team at Sainsburys, we all did something funny for money......"

Sainsbury's have been the official supermarket sponsor of Comic Relief for 11 years now and to date they have donated over £48 million.
