Troubled off-licence closes Wilmslow store

oddbins1

Oddbins on Water Lane has closed without much warning to either staff or customers.

A notice placed on the door by Stefan and Alice, who worked in the shop, reads:

"This branch of Oddbins will be closed as of Monday 7th March.

"This decision comes as much as a surprise to us as it will to you and the speed at which this has happened is regrettably out of our control.

"We would both like to thank all our customers for your support over the past few years hopefully we will see many of you around - with a nice glass of something yummy in hand."

Oddbins have appointed Spectrum Corporate Finance to advise on strategic options and at the beginning of the week the struggling off-licence confirmed it would be restructuring the business and shutting 39 out of its 128 shops over the coming weeks.

This is really sad because Stefan and Alice ran a very good store and were always so helpful and knowledgeable. The suddenness of the closure was alarming but obviously reflects current times and also the unfeasibly high and greedy rents in Wilmslow that are making it so difficult for businesses to maintain their heads above water. They will be sorely missed by residents of Wycliffe Ave - and by many others in Wilmslow who valued an alternative to the predictability of supermarkets. We wish you both well.
