The 27th ASICS Wilmslow Half Marathon will be run on Sunday 27th March, starting from Wilmslow Rugby Club at 10.30am.

For the third year running, the race has the added prestige of incorporating the England Half Marathon Championships. The added endorsement to this popular and prestigious race guarantees that the cream of England's elite distance runners will again race along the leafy lanes of Wilmslow and Mobberley.

Accomplished runners such as 2010 champion Andy Jones (Salford Harriers), Thomas Abyu (Salford Harriers) and three times lady champion Michelle-Ross Cope (City of Stoke), use the event as a spring board to European, World or Commonwealth games championships.

Both defending champions will be chasing prize money totalling over £11,000 but the competition will be tough with some elite African born runners, mainly from Kenyan, running for Birchfield Harriers.

Adding to the international flavour, some 30 German runners who are on an exchange visit with Sale Harriers will be running the race this year.

In addition to the elite runners, who compete for championship honours, thousands of runners, many with very personal reasons, pound the streets for their own chosen charity. As a result, each year the race raises tens of thousands of pounds for charity. This year the chosen lead charity for the race is Macmillan Cancer support.

The race reached its capacity of 4,000 runners before Christmas, making the 2011 Asics Wilmslow Half Marathon more popular than ever.

A full road closure will be in force on the day covering all roads in the Kings Road and Altrincham Road area, and on the course itself as it winds towards Mobberley before heading back to finish on Morley Road Wilmslow.
