Cheshire East Council has joined forces with the Environment Agency, the Bollin River Partnership and Friends of The Carrs to tackle erosion problems at the River Bollin. The authority is part of a project to carry out riverbank repairs using environmentally sustainable materials and avoid using invasive engineering solutions.

The river bank consists of particularly sandy materials. As a result, it is easily damaged by its environment and human activity – leading to increased erosion. The project, at The Carrs, will begin on Monday, February 28th and is expected to be completed in, approximately, four weeks. As well as the repair work, the project will see the creation of a new wetland habitat and the planting of more trees.

Cheshire East Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said "I am pleased that we, as an authority, are working with our partners to discover a long-term solution to this serious riverbank erosion. The River Bollin is a popular place for recreation for many people in Cheshire East and we want it to stay that way."

Colin Shepherd, a Spokesman for the Environment Agency, added "The deterioration of the river banks has been a concern for a long time and we are delighted that the discussions between The Friends, the Environment Agency and Cheshire East Council are now coming to fruition and that repair works are going to take place. It is a further step to improving the appearance of The Carrs and ensuring it remains a valuable facility for future generations."
