All that was missing was the Barmy Army…

…and some Aussies and a different shaped bat and ball!

The “Wilmslow Ashes” was competed for by two local primary schools, Alderley Edge and Lindow. Local primary headteachers Chris Perry of Alderley Edge and Darren Morgan of Lindow led teams of 7 players in a highly competitive Table Tennis match held at Lindow Primary School.

Why the Ashes? Mr Morgan explained to the players an apocryphal story of more than 100 years ago a Table Tennis bat was burnt in the name of good sportsmanship after a player had the temerity to reverse the pimples on one side of the bat so that the spin could not be read!

Lindow edged to victory following a very competitive match that displayed great sportsmanship; special mention for Harvey Wain of Lindow who remained undefeated throughout the match.
