Lindow Primary School praised by Ofsted

Following a visit from Ofsted inspectors last month, Lindow Primary School are very proud of their recent report. The primary school has been recognised for providing a good education for its pupils whose behaviour was considered excellent.

Writing to the school after his visit, Mr Frank Carruthers, Lead inspector, said "Your school is providing you with a good education. Some of its work is outstanding. Your behaviour is excellent and this means you learn well.

"You take on responsibilities well and we were very impressed with how older pupils take care of the younger children, helping them to feel part of a big family. You make good progress in lessons and, by the time you leave at the end of Year 6, most of you reach the standards expected in English and mathematics. This is because the teaching you receive is good and you work hard.

"The staff take outstanding care of you all so that you feel safe and have someone to turn to if you have any need to do so. They have built up excellent links with your parents and carers and with other schools, all to very good effect."

The Ofsted report also recognised the "outstanding progress" made by pupils with special educational needs as a result of the "high-quality specialist teaching."

Darren Morgan, Headteacher, commented "We are very pleased with the report, it is testament to the incredible hard work the parents, governors, staff and children put into this very special school.

"Lindow Community Primary School is on a journey; the Ofsted report demonstrates we are in a genuine position of strength, however we will continue to strive for the very highest standards in every area.

"I am particularly delighted with the acknowledgement that children's behaviour and the effectiveness of care, guidance and support are designated 'outstanding'."

Claire McLeod, Chair of Governors, commented: "The school had made tremendous progress since Darren Morgan was appointed Head a year ago. Ofsted has recognised the excellent work that is on-going and, naturally, I am delighted that the work of the Governing Body was judged as 'outstanding'."

As part of the Ofsted process parents were asked to complete a questionnaire, the results of which showed that 94% of those who returned the survey were happy with the school, 98% felt the teaching was good, 98% felt their child was cared for by the staff and 100% felt the staff were approachable.

Looking to the future, the inspector noted that in order for the school to improve further they should; build on the strengths in teaching and learning, share best practice among staff and embed fully the systems to assess and track the progress that pupils make.

It's good to see Lindow School, after a period of mediocraty immediately after Peter Helliwell retired as head, back up to the standards and values Peter set. The qualities of valuing the child and giving them space to develop that Peter pioneered back when such considerations were rare are, it seems, once again to the fore once more at Lindow under the present head.

It used to be a very special school. And it's wonderful that it is again!

Disagree completely with Vince's comments regarding the new heads part in turning the school around!

I didn't say it was turned around by the present head. My point was it took a dive after Peter retired, and these days is back up to where is was.
