Wilmslow Business Group take to the dancefloor

Preparations for the Wilmslow Business Group's Strictly Come Dancing competition are well underway.

With less than a month to go until the big night, weekly rehearsals are being held at the Dance Fever studios. Four male and four female contestants are being put through their paces by their dance partners.

Steve Morris, Chairman of WBG and manager at Sainsbury's, said "Wilmslow's very own Strictly Come Dancing is back by popular demand. Two years ago over 120 people attended the event, which raised over £1500 for Scamps theatre group.

"This year the Genesis cancer charity will benefit, so come along and I guarantee a great evening."

Joanne Griffiths, Volunteer Managing Director at JJ's Sensory Play Centre, is taking part in this year's competition. She told me "I have never done anything like this before. I did have a few dance lessons last year with my sister-in-law for a bit of fun, but it's not quite the same as I cannot really make any mistakes."

Joanne added "I am slightly apprehensive about the competition, what if I mess up or fall over? As I have been rehearsing it has become clear that we will be dancing right next to the audience and judges so they can really see up close!

"Robert, my dance partner will keep me dancing well as he has done this before, Michelle is a patient instructor, and the tracks we have are good and planned out with a little bit of fun added."

Steve Morris was a contestant two years ago but this time he will be putting his experience and knowledge to use by participating as one of the three judges. The evening will be hosted by Michelle Fotherby-O'Brien from Dance Fever, who has years of experience teaching dance and music to people of all ages and abilities.

Strictly Come Dancing will take place on Saturday March 12th. Each pair will perform two dances on the night in an attempt to impress the judges.

Tickets, available from Sainsburys, Hoopers, Mailbox, Dance Fever, are already selling fast. They are priced £14, including a light buffet, with proceeds from the event going to the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal.
